Imphal, Feb 25:

The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) observed its 15th Raising Day with the theme “Defending Freedom, Pursuing Peace”. The event, held at Mount Ararat Headquarters, featured the ceremonial hoisting of the flag and the resonant chant of “Hozam,” symbolizing the enduring hope of the Zeliangrong kindred people for freedom.
Felix Kamei, Home Secretary and chief guest, addressed the gathering, urging the people to remain hopeful as political talks with the Government of India (GOI) neared a resolution. He called on the government to expedite the process, cautioning that further delays could lead to public unrest. Stressing the significance of the Zeliangrong cause, he stated that it should not be equated with other negotiations but given due priority.
On the occasion, ZUF Chairman Jenchui Kamei expressed gratitude to comrades and cadres for their sacrifices. Reflecting on the 15-year struggle since the Front’s formation in 2011, he paid tribute to those who had laid down their lives for the cause, hoping their sacrifices would ultimately lead to the realization of their homeland.
Kamei recalled that on this day in 2011, the Front had taken a stand for its cause with unwavering faith, believing that victory would be achieved through patience and perseverance. He highlighted the revival of the Zeliangrong People Convention and the inclusion of their political issues in discussions with the GOI. He stated that many had forsaken personal comforts and interests for the collective aspiration of their homeland.
Providing an update on the political talks, he informed that the Zeliangrong political issues had reached an advanced stage, with the fifth round of discussions held under the Zeliangrong Statehood Working Committee. Expressing optimism, he noted that the process was nearing a final resolution.
Kamei also emphasized the importance of unity and forgiveness, stating that past wrongs, including betrayals that occurred due to circumstances, had been pardoned in the interest of a greater cause. He stressed that their homeland was larger than individual mistakes and cited the saying, “To err is human, but to forgive is divine.”
Acknowledging the hardships faced during their struggle, he assured that despite setbacks, the people’s hope and determination remained steadfast. He conveyed deep gratitude for their continued support and cooperation, affirming that the fire of aspiration for a Zeliangrong Homeland was still burning bright.
Concluding his message, he urged the people to stay committed, stating that the long journey of struggle was nearing its goal. He expressed hope that the Raising Day would always be remembered as a symbol of resilience and the unwavering pursuit of freedom.
