The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) today commemorated India’s 77th Republic Day alongside the 111th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu, highlighting her role as a key figure from the Northeast in India’s struggle for independence.
In a statement issued by Louis Gangmei, Secretary of Information & Publicity of ZUF, the organization noted that Rani Gaidinliu and Haipou Jadonang were instrumental in the fight against colonial oppression in the Zeliangrong region during the late 1920s and early 1930s. The statement recalled the adoption of India’s national motto, Satyameva Jayate, on 26 January 1950, and drew parallels with the Zeliangrong slogans Hozam and Ringtelou, which symbolize victory and resilience and remain in use among the community today.
The ZUF appealed to the Government of India to expedite the resolution of decades-old political issues affecting the Zeliangrong people, stressing that their demands deserve priority and sincere consideration. The organization conveyed its greetings to all Indians on the occasion of Republic Day while reaffirming the continued recognition of Rani Gaidinliu’s legacy.
