The Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress today marched towards the Chief Minister’s bungalow under its “Meri Degree Ka Kya?” campaign, demanding immediate filling of vacant government posts and greater transparency in recruitment.
The protest march began at Congress Bhavan, but police personnel stopped the protesters on the way. The demonstrators continued their march and eventually reached the Chief Minister’s bungalow before returning to Congress Bhavan.
The Youth Congress demanded immediate recruitment against all vacant government posts, a fixed annual recruitment calendar and reduction of application fees for government recruitment to Rs.1.
It also called for effective legislation to ensure transparent and fair recruitment and demanded an end to contractual appointments to government posts.
The protest was led by All India Youth Congress National General Secretary Tarh Johny, Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress president Anand and other party leaders and supporters.
Addressing reporters, Tarh Johny highlighted the concerns of educated unemployed youth and demanded regular, transparent and timely recruitment to government posts.
The Youth Congress said the “Meri Degree Ka Kya?” campaign was aimed at highlighting the employment crisis confronting educated youth and pressing the government for concrete measures to expand access to government jobs.
