World Youth Skills Day 2025 observed in Chandel with focus on AI and Digital Empowerment

The World Youth Skills Day 2025 was observed today with much enthusiasm at St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School, located in Liwa Changning, Chandel District. The event witnessed the participation of over 1,200 individuals, including school teachers, forest department staff, and students.
Dr. N. Munal Meitei, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Chandel, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while the school’s principal, Father Benjamin, presided over the function. Themed “Youth Empowerment through AI and Digital Skills,” the event served as a platform to encourage young minds to explore the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence and skill-based learning.
In his keynote address, Dr. Munal highlighted the alarming rate of environmental degradation and stressed the importance of responsible living to protect the Earth for future generations. He emphasized that while the planet may seem bountiful, it is in a fragile state due to human exploitation. He called upon today’s youth to take responsibility for preserving nature, reminding them that Mother Earth is not permanent unless cared for with love and wisdom.
Dr. Munal pointed out that 50% of India’s population is under the age of 25, making the youth a powerful force in shaping the future of the country. Referring to the Government of India’s “Skill India” mission launched in 2014, he expressed concern that India’s current skill development index stands at just 4.69%, in stark contrast to South Korea’s 96% and Japan’s 80%.
He further urged the youth to recognize their immense potential and harness it for meaningful change. However, he added, true progress would only be possible if it is guided by a sense of responsibility towards the environment and society. This, he said, is where Artificial Intelligence and advanced skills can play a crucial role.
Dr. Munal appealed to the younger generation to equip themselves with digital and AI-related skills to build a stronger, more sustainable society. He encouraged students and youth to act as the agents of change by blending innovation with environmental awareness.
