Imphal, Dec 4:
The Chandel Forest Division observed World Wildlife Conservation Day and International Cheetah Day at St. Paul’s School, Liwachangning, Komlathabi. Along with the observance, an awareness program was also conducted, engaging around 1200 students.
Today’s program was attended by Dr. N. Munal Meitei, Divisional Forest Officer of Chandel, and Father Rev. Aloysius, Principal of St. Paul’s School as the President and Chief Guest, respectively. The event was conducted with the active involvement of the school’s teachers and staff.
During the program, DFO/Chandel, Dr. N. Munal, stated that wildlife species are precious gifts from nature to humanity and are invaluable treasures and humans take them as useless without any worth. Without wildlife, the existence of humans will not be possible and they also have the right to live like the humans in this earth.
Dr. N. Munal further stated that due to human greed, wildlife are being ruthlessly killed, and today, every five minutes, precious species are on the brink of extinction. There were tigers, Elephant, Rhinoceros etc in Manipur many years back however, today, these have become nothing more than mere stories.
Dr. N. Munal urged the students and the public to actively participate in efforts to protect wildlife and bring about positive change through their actions. While we may not be able to bring back the wildlife that has already become extinct in Manipur, Dr. N. Munal appealed to the students and participants of today’s observance to do their best to protect and conserve the Sangai and other wildlife.
