World Sight Day 2025 observed in Chandel

The 26th World Sight Day 2025 was observed at the District Hospital Chandel under the theme “Love Your Eyes.” The programme was jointly organised by the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI), Manipur, in collaboration with the State Health Society, National Health Mission, District Health Society, Chandel, and the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur.
Dr. N. Hemantakumar Singh, Director of Health Services, attended the function as Chief Guest, while Dr. Joyson Mathew Monsang, Chief Medical Officer of Chandel, as President. Dr. Y. Premchandra, Joint Director of Health Services, and Dr. Serbum Sakchung, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Chandel, were also present as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hemantakumar Singh urged the public to take proper care of their eyes by maintaining good hygiene and adopting healthy lifestyle practices. He advised regular eye check-ups and screening for hypertension and diabetes, which are major causes of visual impairment. He also announced that a regular ophthalmologist would soon be posted at the District Hospital Chandel to strengthen eye care services in the district.
Dr. Joyson Mathew Monsang highlighted the need for a dedicated ophthalmologist and improved infrastructure for eye surgeries to ensure comprehensive eye care services in the district.
As part of the observance, a Mega Free Eye and Cataract Screening Camp was conducted, benefiting local residents with free eye check-ups and consultations.
