Imphal, Oct 10: 22nd World Mental Health Day 2014 under the theme of ‘living with Schizophrenia’ was observed today at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal being jointly organised by the Health Department, Manipur State Mental Health Authority, Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch and Department of Psychiatry, JNIMS.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, P.C. Lawmkunga said mental health is important and understanding it is a basic requirement for everyone. Even in the small state like Manipur the issue of mental health is increasing day by day and such awareness program becomes necessary so as to spread the awareness of this illness to each corner of the state, said the Chief Secretary. He added that most of the doctors, nurses or other governmental agents do not prefer getting posted in rural areas. So he appealed to all of them to work loyally considering for the people of the rural areas. The Chief Secretary further said there are various governmental hospitals and institutes but he questioned to all the employees if they are serving the government faithfully. He also appealed to all the nurses and receptionists at any hospitals to take care patients of mental health with kindness as the care they show is worth more than the medicine.
