World Meetei Council calls for united vision, urges CSOs to prioritise Manipur’s future

The World Meetei Council (WMC) has called on civil society organisations (CSOs) to set aside differences and formulate a common vision for the future of Manipur, expressing concern that social and cultural activities are being prioritised over pressing issues confronting the State.

In a statement issued by Secretary General Yambem Arun Meetei, the WMC observed that while social media reflects widespread public anxiety over the prevailing situation, many localities continue to remain occupied with festivals, cultural events and other celebrations without adequately addressing the challenges facing the State.

The council stressed the need for CSOs and community organisations to hold a closed-door meeting to evolve a unified roadmap for Manipur, instead of pursuing separate agendas. It said such collective deliberations were essential to determine the course the State should take in the coming years.

The WMC also appealed to organisations and individuals actively working for the State to avoid organising or participating in celebratory events at this critical juncture and instead focus their efforts on addressing the larger issues affecting Manipur.

The statement further urged Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to adopt a broader and long-term approach in leading the State, warning that a “myopic” outlook could adversely affect Manipur’s future.
