World Environment Day 2023 observed in Kakching

Like the rest of the world, World Environment Day 2023 was observed today at Angaan Ching Eco Park, Kakching organized by the Central Bureau of Communication, Field Office, Chandel in collaboration with Thoubal Forest Division, Manipur.
This year, the day is celebrated with the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ highlighting people’s actions toward plastic pollution reduction. The day encourages individuals, governments, and international bodies to prioritize eco-friendly practices for a greener world and the protection of the environment.
World Environment Day is observed to raise awareness about environmental protection and sustainability after the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) proposed a special day for the environment in 1972, which was designated by the UN General Assembly.
The observation at Angaan Ching Eco Park was attended by over 70 local residents of the area and participated in a tree plantation drive around the park.
Divisional Forest Officer, Th. Lokendro who attended the function as the Chief Guest highlighted some of the significant steps every individual can take up to beat plastic pollution. He also mentioned that World Environment Day 2023 is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matters. The steps governments and businesses are taking to tackle plastic pollution are the consequence of this action.
Lokendro also said that various organizations, bodies, and stakeholders should work in the direction to address the challenges that have posed a threat to the environment. He urged the participants to adopt an eco-friendly practice to have a greener and cleaner environment.
The World Environment Day 2023 observation held today was also attended by Range Forest Officer, Kakching L. Dinesh, Field Exhibition Officer CBC FO Chandel M. Rustum and President of Alliance for Development Alternative Manipur Dilip Kshetri.
Members of the Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Kakching district also participated in the tree plantation drive conducted at Angaan Ching Eco Park, Kakching.
