Imphal, March 21: World Down Syndrome Day is being observed today the world over. Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently abled Persons, Manipur also held an Awareness Campaign on World Down Syndrome Day at Langmeidong Makha Leikai Kakching District and attended by a number of personalities including National Awardee Shri Laimayum Amerendra Sharma, Langmeidong Gram Panchayat Up-Pradhan Y. Pashot Leima etc. Joint Secy. of the Relief Centre Oinam Brikumar graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Programme Manager of the Relief Centre Moirangthem Premier elaborated on the procedures to procure certificates for the disabled at remote areas as well as the facilities provided to the certificate holders in detail. National Awardee Laimayum Amerendra Sharma described the importance of Differently abled persons to the parents. The highlight of the observation function was the interactive program with students of Takyel Mapal Upper Primary School of Imphal West District on ways of interacting with Differently abled persons and how they can take up responsibilities of bringing the differently abled persons into the social mainstream conducted by M Premier Singh, Programme Manager of the Relief Centre. A Home Base Awareness Campaign was also conducted and children with Down syndrome were presented T-Shirts by the Relief Centre, a press release stated.
