World Bicycle Day observed in Jiribam

World Bicycle Day was observed in Jiribam district on Wednesday as part of the global celebration promoting cycling as a sustainable and eco-friendly mode of transport.
The programme was organised by the NSS Unit and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Jiri College in collaboration with MY Bharat Jiribam.
As part of the observance, a bicycle rally was conducted from Irabot Point to the Railway Crossing at Babupara, Jiribam. The rally was flagged off by T. Tiken Singh, Officer-in-Charge of Jiribam Police Station.
Speaking to media persons, O. Radheshyam, Programme Officer of the NSS Unit, Jiri College, said cycling is a clean, affordable and sustainable means of transportation. He noted that increased use of bicycles can play a significant role in reducing pollution and addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
He further stated that opting for bicycles for short-distance travel can help conserve fuel, improve physical health and contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.
