Workshop on roles of media on Panchayati Raj concludes

The two day workshop on the role of media on Panchayati Raj organised by the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union concluded today at Hotel Classic Imphal. Professor N Mohendro, Economist and Khelen Thokchom, Special Correspondent The Telegraph spoke as resourch person in the morning session. In his speech Khelen Thokchom, highlighted the present problem faced by the journalist in inclusion of news related to the panchayati raj as well as the probable problems faced by the members of the panchayat in getting the attention of the media person. He said trust deficit is the main reason for the communication gap. He said the members of the panchayat should not hesitate in approaching the media if it is of public importance. Moderator of the session Advocate Khaidem Mani said that he is ready to provide all assistant to empower the panchayat members. Professor Mohendro appealed the members to go for developmental dimension while preparing project instead of just borrowing from the already made modules. He said members need to lots of home work before taking up any developmental works. In case if the work propose for the people in need has been delayed the matter need to be exposed through media.
