Imphal, May 17: Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation, Manipur and Centre for Community Initiative, Churachandpur organised one day state level workshop on “Rights of persons with disabilities act, 2016” at Manipur press club today.
Speaking at the workshop, Sapam Jasobanta, Secretary General of HD Foundation, Manipur said that the workshop was organised to discuss in details the persons with disabilities (PWD) act, 2016 which was approved by the president of India.
Jasobanta also said that once the PWD act, 2016 comes into effect, the persons with disabilities act, 1995 popularly known as equal opportunity, protection of rights and full participation act, 1995 will be replace by the new act.
Jasobanta further said that the workshop will provide information on how the family members of disable can claim their rights under the new act.
Mention may be that the new act was approved by the President of India on December 27 of 2016.
