A two day workshop on ‘media in mediatory role’ begins today at the conference Hall of the Mass Communication department Manipur University. The workshop is jointly organised by Mass Communication department, Manipur University, All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union, Women in Media Network India, Imphal Free Press, Peoples’ Dialogue Initiatives and Volunteers for Village Development Ukhrul in collaboration with Action Aid Association, regional Office Guwahati.
The workshop aims to find a way in which media may also play a mediatory role to facilitate peace process in the protracted violent social and political conflict in Manipur in the absence of any institutional mechanism and professionally organised efforts to mediate the conflict in the state.
The inaugural function of the 2 day workshop was attended by Prof. HNK Sharma, Vice -Chancellor, MU, Salam Somorjit, Director IPR, Govt. of Manipur, Salam Bharat Bhusan, Fomer editor Huiyen Lanpao, H. Chishi, Correspondent, Telegraph , Nagaland, Sothing Shimray, President Manipur Hill Journalist Union and Paudi Renta, General Secretary, Dimapur Press Club, Nagaland as dignitaries on the dais.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. HNK Sharma stressed on the need for organising such a workshop as the media roles in conflict region is crucial.
