A one-day state-level workshop on “Fodder Resource Development Plan for Manipur” was held today at the College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Iroisemba. The programme was organised by the AICRP Forage Crops and Utilization team of CAU.
The workshop discussed the rising demand for fodder in Manipur due to the increase in livestock population and milk production. Experts stressed that improving year-round availability of fodder through better land use, higher productivity, and scientific methods is essential to meet the growing need.
Shri Michael Achom, Secretary, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Government of Manipur, attended as chief guest. Dr. L.M. Garnayak, Director of Research, CAU, and Prof. N. Brajendra Singh, Dean of the College of Agriculture, were also present.
Participants included scientists, officials, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) heads, dairy farmers, farmer-producer organisations (FPOs), and milk unions. They exchanged ideas on bridging the gap between demand and supply of fodder and called for collaborative efforts to strengthen the livestock sector.
The workshop concluded with an appeal to integrate scientific research with farmers’ practices to build a sustainable fodder resource base for the state.
