Workshop on floral craft held

Department of Life Sciences &Bioinformatics Departics has organised a two day workshop &hands on training on “Dehydration of Flowers, Foliage & Floral Craft” on 16 and 17.
The main purpose of the workshop was to develop awareness of how a scientific technique can be simplified for societal benefits.
In the two day long training, 35 trainees from different departments of the varsity were given demonstrations on how any types of seasonal flower cuts can be hydrated and can be produce as value added products like occasional greeting cards, table mates, wall plates and other decorative items by using two simple dehydrating techniques and of course with the artistic skills.
Dr SK Datta, DBT-NER as well as visiting Research Professor in the hosting department was the resource person of the workshop.
According to Dr Datta, normally seasonal cut flowers were enjoyed only for 5 to 10 days at the maximum. But he said with such some eco friendly technology by which the originality of every flower that is shape and colour can be dehydrated and it can be utilized in producing value added products.
He told this reported that the technology will be very good for employment generation among unemployment youths and for earning money by house wives and rural women. He informed that the technique has be simplified in such a way that just after two days of training one can start earning.
