Workshop held to spread awareness about women and child issues

Song and Drama Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with Ministry of Women and Child Development organised a one day orientation workshop on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ today at its office at Wangkhei, Yonglan Leirak. While attending the workshop as Chief Guest, Km. Ranjana Manoharmayum, Deputy Director, ICDS, Social Welfare Department, Govt. of Manipur said that the orientation workshop is to spread awareness of the scheme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ which was launched by the Prime Minster, Narendra Modi on the 22nd of last December at Haryana. She said that according to the census report of 1961 and 2011 the child sex ratio has dropped by 58 per thousand, whereas the ratio of girl child has been shockingly declining comparing to earlier period. She added that it is very important to discuss why there is an imbalance of child sex ratio in Northeast and how to increase the ratio. Attending the function as President, Ak. Khogendra Singh, Programme Head, DDK Imphal, Vice President IMPCC, Manipur said that the scheme is being launched under national policy hence involvement is required from the state government, the people of the state and the NGOs. ‘Beti Bachao’ does not only propagate the fight against pre- natal sex determination, but also to battle against crimes on women and children in the country.
