Women’s Organizations to hold solidarity protest in Imphal

Market Women, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and Student Groups in Imphal are set to hold a solidarity protest on July 28, from 1 to 3 pm at THAO ground in Thangmeiband. This demonstration is part of a larger movement, with students and various organizations in Delhi also organizing a protest on the same day.Koirem Binodini, Co-convenor of the Khwairamband Ima Keithel Coordinating Committee for Peace, announced the plans for the Imphal protest. The event aims to draw attention to the ongoing violence that began with the Kuki militants in March 2023, which has significantly impacted the region.
The protest will highlight the urgent need for central government intervention in the conflict. Binodini has called for the demolition of bunkers used by Kuki militants and questioned why support continues to be extended to them. She also emphasized the necessity for the government to facilitate the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have been affected by the violence.Binodini criticized the recent Parliament budget session for failing to address the situation in Manipur, pointing out that the region’s issues were overlooked. The solidarity protest is expected to bring together diverse groups from Imphal to voice their concerns and advocate for meaningful intervention and support from the central government.
