Imphal, Oct 14:
Women’s organizations from across the valley gathered at Neinasang Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai to condemn the intimidation and threats faced by RK Ichanthoi, a young and vocal vlogger. The meeting addressed recent actions taken by KCP (Nongdrenkhomba), which has imposed a ban on social media and public statements.
The gathering followed the attempted abduction of Ichanthoi on October 10 at her home in Tera Amudon Khomnam Leirak. Reports indicate that three men and two women attempted to forcibly abduct her around 8 PM, during which they seized her phone.
Women at the meeting expressed their outrage, noting that while many boys and girls bravely fight at the front lines, there are also those who intimidate women. They condemned this act of aggression against Ichanthoi, emphasizing her significant contributions to the Meitei cause despite not engaging in armed conflict.
They also stressed the importance of treating women with respect, pointing out that some individuals are behaving inappropriately towards women. They affirmed that they do not stand with those who objectify and threaten them.
The organizations demanded that KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) clarify its stance within five days. They warned that failure to do so could result in a decision not to cooperate with the group, stressing that the community has a history of treating women with dignity.
