Women’s bodies staged protest at Loitang Khunou under COCOMI’s ongoing campaign

As part of the sustained public mobilisation campaign launched by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a sit-in protest was staged today at Loitang Khunou Community Hall by the All Manipur Nupi Lup comprising women from Loitang Khunou, Moibung Khunou, Khurkhul and Senjam Chakprou.
The protest, held around 1 pm, drew a large number of local women and residents who gathered to express concern over the continuing crisis in Manipur and to extend support to COCOMI’s ongoing movement on issues affecting the state.
Speakers at the programme alleged that Manipur was facing a “proxy war” which, they claimed, had severely affected the lives of the people and threatened the integrity and stability of the state. They also called for unity among the people and urged the public to remain vigilant amid the prevailing situation.
Social worker Thingujam Bijen, Ima Sobita and the secretary of Nupi Samaj addressed the gathering and spoke on the hardships faced by the people since the outbreak of violence in the state. They maintained that women had continued to play a major role in safeguarding society during the crisis.
Representatives of COCOMI, including Naorem Mahendra and M. Joy, also attended the programme and delivered speeches highlighting the objectives of the organisation’s ongoing statewide campaign. They reiterated the need for collective public participation and awareness to counter what they described as attempts to destabilise Manipur through externally backed forces and divisive agendas.
The sit-in protest formed part of COCOMI’s continuing series of public outreach programmes and demonstrations being organised across different parts of the state in recent weeks.
