Imphal, Aug 18: Large number of women activists belonging to various civil society organisation including Women Wing of JCILPS, JAC formed against the announcement of Wanted to Kh Ratan, Ima Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup and Chingmee Tammi Apunba Lup tried to stormed the official bungalow of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh at around 3.00 pm today. However, a police team who was already present in and around the periphery of CM Bungalow and Raj Bhavan timely intervene and prevented them from proceeding towards the CM Bungalow at Nupi Lal Memorial Complex.
Former convenor of Women Wing L. Nganbi while speaking to media persons said that earlier the women activists prepared a mass relay in protest against the arrest of Ratan in a cowardice manner. However, as a mark of respect to the law of the land the women activists simply tried to meet the Chief Minister to question the rationale behind the arrest of Ratan at nearly midnight when he was allowed to stage protest for 12 hours at Keishampat leimajam leikai.
Nganbi further condemn the excess of the police force for firing tear gas shell towards a group of lady activist who were peacefully staging democratic protest.
She further added that the people of the state will not retreat the protest for implementation of an Inner Line permit system in the state. She also warned the government of drafting a new Bill by modifying the earlier Bill which was rejected.
Later, the police allowed five representatives of the women activists to meet the Chief Minister. But surprisingly as the five women were kept waiting inside the bungalow as Chief Minister was not available at the movement the women representatives came out of the bungalow and joined the other activist in front of Nupi Lal Memorial complex. The women activists further added that they didn’t come to relax in the air conditioned room of the Chief Minister but to talk about the issue that is the need of the hour.
