A 55-year-old woman died after sustaining critical injuries in a hit-and-run accident that took place on Monday evening along Tiddim Road near Naranseina Bridge in Bishnupur district.
The victim, identified as Shamurailatpam Manitombi, wife of Shyam Sharma of Naranseina Makha Leikai, was reportedly walking near the roadside when a speeding four-wheeler struck her at around 7:30 pm. The vehicle, believed to be travelling towards Imphal from Moirang, fled the scene after the collision.
Manitombi was rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Her body has been kept at the RIMS morgue for post-mortem examination.
Moirang Police Station has registered a case in connection with the incident and launched a search operation to trace the vehicle involved in the fatal accident.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the vehicle or its driver.
