Imphal, May 19: A married woman was found dead in a suspicious manner inside the pond of a fish farm situated at Uchiwa Awang Salam Thamna Houbi Leikai under Mayang Imphal Police station today morning.
The deceased woman was identified by her uncle and grandmother as Wahengbam Echan Devi (23), d/o late W Birkumar Singh of Sekmaijin Khunou Mayai Leikai.
According to report, the dead body was found tied to a rope, one end of which was lying across the road. When locals who were taking their morning walk came upon the rope and tried to pull it out of the pond they discovered the dead body with a noose on her neck in the water.
Family members of the deceased said that the victim is a divorcee and presently staying at her parental home for around one year.
Police is investigating the nature of the death. It is suspected that the victim was raped and murdered and police has sent the body for autopsy.
