61 women, wives of the CAF and PD Labourers threatened to boycott ‘Ningol Chakouba,’ the prestigious festival of Manipur and calls 24 hours general strike at NH 150 (Tiddim Road) and NH 39 (Cachar Road) starting from the midnight of 16th Oct to 17th Oct demanding the concerned authorities to provide employment to all the 61 labourers.Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, Secretary, CAF and PD Labourers Welfare Association, Romendrajit Moirangcha said that various democratic form of agitations have been urged to the concerned authorities to provide them jobs however no response has been given from the authority’s side. Threatening to launch serious other agitations, Romendrajit said the association will impose 24 hours general strike on NH 150 and NH 39 from the midnight of Oct 16 to Oct 17. He further said starting from 18th Oct the association will impose an indefinite boycott of all the loading and unloading works of FCI and other related works of CAF and PD.Speaking to media persons, L. Hemabati, w/o. L. Romesh who is one of the labourers said their financial condition has become very poor and not able to afford their children’s education since their husbands have not got employment for around six months. Since there is no fund to celebrate the upcoming festival ‘Ningol Chakouba,’ all the wives of the labourers have decided to cut out of the prestigious festivals, said Hemabati.
