Winger body suspends service protesting assault on driver

All Manipur Inter State Taxi Worker Association and Winger Drivers suspended service indefinitely protesting assault to one of its driver by Mega Counter’s Proprietor, Kito Sagma and illegal collection of various taxes by Dimapur Municipal Council, Bus Union Dimapur and Taxi Union Dimapur.
Winger driver, Khumanthem Ashok (27) of Sagolband Tera Thingujam Leirak was assaulted by Kito Sagma, Proprietor of Mega Counter on Monday at around 05.00 pm for parking and picking up passengers at Gholaghat.
All Manipur Inter State Taxi Worker Association and Winger Drivers also demand immediate withdrawal of all forms of illegal taxes imposes to them. The association said Dimapur Municipal Council has been collecting a sum of Rs. 500, Bus Union Dimapur collects Rs. 500 and Taxi Union Dimapur collects Rs. 500 taxes which is not legal. They also urged to stop all kind of donations from the vehicles on the road. The association said unless a settlement has been brought between the concerned body there will be no let off to the agitation. Representative of Dimapur counter are arriving Imphal tomorrow to sort out the matter.

They should also mentioned the annual tax by non state elements and the per trip collection at Tadubi and Kisama. Even the excise and forest department collect illegal tax from Winger Taxis.
