Widespread tree plantation drive marks Van Mahotsav Day

Imphal, July 7: A total of 10,000 saplings were planted in 16 centres of Tengnoupal and Chandel districts during the Vana Mahotsva observance by Tengnoupal Forest Division.
The tree plantation campaign for the district was inaugurated by Conservator of Forest Eastern Circle W Yaiskul and divisional forest officer of Chandel Gaithaol Thaimei at a function at Aimol Satu village.
Officials of the forest department of the district and local people of respective villages chosen for tree plantation joined in planting the saplings.  The villages where the events were organised are Aimol Satu, Aimol Ngairong, Aimol Tampak, Aimol Khullen, Aimol Khudamphai, Aimol Chingnunghut, Aihang, Kangbung, Thumcheng, Kwatha, Korkum, Chandonpokpi, Ziontlang, Lambung, Natham, and Thangkham.
DFO Chandel Thaimei said the mission of planting 10,000 saplings in different centres at Chandel, Chakpuikarong, Tengnoupal and Moreh ranges was authorized to help in achieving the target of planting 1,00,000 saplings in the state as a whole.  
Forest department Thoubal division also observed Van Mahotsav today and planted saplings at 16 centres at Thoubal and Kackhing districts.
Under the aegis of DFO Thoubal a tree plantation programme was also organised on the occasion at Kheba Ching, Khongjom which was jointly organised by Thoubal Range, Rural Development Association, pradhan of Sapam GP Th Jiten, upa pradhan of Khongjom GP Manglemjao and Youth Forward Association, Chingtham.   
Taking part in the observance the minister of forest Th Shyamkumar said the widespread tree plantation campaign being taken up all over Manipur is part of an effort to reverse the effect of adverse climatic changes and deforestation. He informed that he will individually plant saplings throughout the month of July.
The voluntary participation of the public are committed to planting trees and protecting the environment is an omen that after some years our place will be covered in greeneries again.
