The Working Committee of Kuki Civil Society Organisations (WCKCSOs) has announced the immediate withdrawal of the economic blockade it imposed along National Highway-2 in Kangpokpi district which was imposed since yesterday morning. The protest was launched in response to the indefinite blockade by the Foothills Naga Coordinating Committee (FNCC).
In a statement, WCKCSOs said the decision followed the intervention of the Governor of Manipur, which led to the reopening of what it described as over 20 days of “total communal blockade” affecting the Kangpokpi–Churachandpur lifeline of the Kuki-Zo people. While acknowledging the hardships and suffering faced by the community during the blockade, the committee expressed gratitude to the United Naga Council for its “mature stand” in localising the issue and upholding humanitarian principles.
The organisation also thanked well-wishers and the general Kuki-Zo population for their support. It cautioned that no organisation would be allowed to dictate terms along their lifelines and urged the community to remain prepared to stage democratic protests whenever necessary in the future.
