WAMA observes 26th International Mother Language Day in Thoubal

Wakhallon Manaba Apunba (WAMA) Kangleipak and AG Memorial Academy jointly observed the 26th International Mother Language Day 2026 under the theme “Youth Voices on Multilingual Education” at AG Memorial Academy, Charangpat Maning Leikai, Thoubal district.
The observance was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Jackson Kongbam; Moirangtham Naokhamba Meetei, President of WAMA; Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar, President of HERICON; Sougrakpam Sumati, Secretary of AMSGO; and Thiyam Master, Principal of AG Memorial Academy.
Speaking on the occasion, Moirangtham Naokhamba Meetei highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting mother languages and their vital role in shaping cultural identity, strengthening community bonds, and fostering inclusive education. He called for greater student participation in multilingual education to ensure the protection and growth of indigenous languages.
He also spoke about the life and contributions of Laininghan Naoriya Phulo, stating that he was born in Laishram Khul of Hailakandi district, Assam, and elaborated on his significance in the cultural and spiritual history of the Meitei community.
As part of the observance, students of AG Memorial Academy actively participated in a recitation programme featuring Manipuri poems.
Research Forum Manipur also observed International Mother Language Day at the GP Women’s College, auditorium Hall. During the observance, Language Planning Implementation Director Laishram Radhakanta, GP College Principal Longjam Rajen, and Research Forum Manipur President Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meite attended.
