The Village Volunteers, Eastern Zone, a volunteer organisation representing the Kuki-Zo community in Manipur, today warn the Kuki Zo MLAs who joined meeting together with Meitei MLAs at New Delhi and also the caution against the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their respective villages.
In a statement issued by its Information and Publicity wing, the organisation said Kuki-Zo legislators should refrain from participating in the formation of what it described as a so-called popular government in Manipur. It stated that the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities are now living in distinct physical and geographical separation, which, according to the group, needs formal acknowledgment.
The Village Volunteers, Eastern Zone urged the Government of India to recognise the present situation and grant a separate administrative arrangement in the form of a Union Territory for the Kuki-Zo people.
Regarding the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) warned that such steps could further heighten tensions and lead to escalation.
