The world today is on standstill and people across the globed are taking all possible measures to make sure that their citizens are safe from the Covid-19 pandemic. Some countries managed to put under control the spread of the deadly virus , some tried their best but failed due to inability to put in force the safety norms, and some country which are less developed are not successful in making plan for containment of the virus due to various reasons. Yet every nation across the globe are showing that their country are doing their best.
Everybody knows the root of the pandemic and almost all people knows that some countries particularly the China’s Wuhan city which is believed to the birth place of the novel coronavirus have been seriously handling the situation and these countries are at stage of resuming normal life. India too tried but these 2nd wave is giving headache too much.
Chanura Lamchinglen Kangleipak (CLK), a civil orgnisation is worried and expressed dissatisfaction to the way that the government of Manipur is dealing to contain the covid-19 pandemic.
In North East states of India, Manipur is the 2nd affected state after Assam. Almost every day, around 500 people are tested with Covid-19 positive, where around 30 lakhs people lives in the state. The death toll figure has not been declined and at least 10 to 20 people died of the Covid-19 everyday. There are cases of people infected by the virus not getting treatment due to non-availability of treatment facilities. Doctors’ hesitancy, lack of oxygen and non-supply of medicine are the complaints that is being heard everyday.
The CLK had rightly pointed out that when the state is haunted by the 2nd wave of the Covid-19 pandemic , only recently the government announced about the existence of Delta Variant. In many states like Maharastra they have traced the present of delta plus variant which is even more dangerous.
The question raised by the CLK on why the state government is not trying to find out the variant of the virus and make preparation before it already cause catastrophe. Why the Manipur government is not conducting genome sequence to try to find out if there are any Delta Plus present in the state.
Right at the moment there are no treatment center available for other non-covid diseases. Both RIMS and JNIMS are crowded with Covid patients. For the rich people this is not an issue as they are capable of getting treatment at private center by paying whatever amount demanded.
The CLK has rightly urged the government to increase the manpower at all government hospitals, PHCs, District hospitals and other government centers. In order to lessen the compliant of getting not treatment – either for Covid or non-covid, the government need to improve medical equipments and other infrastructures besides appointing more manpower who will be dedicated in serving the people.
Before the third wave arrive the government should prepared well to fight the Covid-19.
On the other hand it is well known fact that vaccination is the only option left to safe the people as of now. The state of Manipur started Vaccination on January 16 this year and it is almost 4 months that the vaccination drive could not speed up for reason best known to the authority. The total number of eligible people so far has not cross 6 lakhs to a population of around 30 lakhs. Per day the state health authority could vaccinate only around 5000 people per day on an average.
Even after the Union government of India has announced revised guidelines which started from June 21, the vaccination rate could not be increased. However, district administration intervention is boosting up the vaccination somehow.
Health department of the state government is still not giving the scientific reason about the death of the 4 people including a breastfeeding mother who expired after getting the vaccine. We don’t believe that the cause of death of the four persons could be because of the vaccine but it is the duty of the state Health Authority to make public the reason for the death as people today are reluctant due to doubt.
