Voice against AFSPA fills the air of Imphal on Meira Paibi Numit

Imphal, May 28: Voice against Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 and demand for rectification of convention against Torture fill the air of Imphal today as women of the state stage rally to observe the 19th Meira Paibi Numit.
The day is observed in recognition to the courage of the Meira Paibi (Torch bearer lady) who has been struggling in every stage of life.
The rally began from THAU ground Thangmeiband and marched till Tharo Devi Ground at Khurai Salanthong. Fitting tribute was paid to the statue of Meira Paibi at the gorund.
Later a memorial function was held wih Longjam Memchoubi, President, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Prof. Ksh Bimola of Manipur University and R. Rengsongak Koireng, Vice president, Meira Paibi Welfare Association Kangleipak as dignitaries on the dais.
Speakers on the occasion recalled the courage of Manipuri mothers who had raised against the oppressive regime against the then British government and the King in 1904 and 1939.
The role of meira paibi in fighting social evil and human rights violation was also highlighted by speakers of the occasion.
