Violence strikes Ratha Yatra preparations, chariot attacked at Palace Compound

IT News
Imphal, July 5:

Unknown armed assailants attacked the chariot being readied for the upcoming Ratha Yatra festival at the Palace Compound. The incident occurred around 12:30 AM near Sana Konung crossing in Imphal city.
According to reports, the attackers arrived in a car from the direction of Advance Hospital, fired two rounds at the stationary chariot, and quickly fled towards Palace Gate. Police from Imphal East district promptly responded to the scene, initiating an investigation and search for the perpetrators.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, contributing to existing tensions amidst ongoing unrest in Manipur. Social media platforms are abuzz with debates on whether to proceed with the Ratha Yatra festival, originally scheduled for June 8 this year. Last year’s festival was significantly scaled down due to similar concerns, with only ritual ceremonies held while the traditional procession was canceled.
