‘Village and School level awareness campaign on biodiversity is necessary’

Thoubal Divisional Forest Office and Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee Manipur (WBCC) also observed the
International Day for Biodiversity -2019 at the auditorium of Divisional Forest Office Thoubal today on the theme
“Our Biodiversity Our Food Our Health.”
 Debala Laiphrakpam, DFO Thoubal Forest Division, Rabi Takhellambam, a journalist and also president of WBCC and N Iboyai, Range Forest Officer Kakching Range attended the observance as dignitaries on the dais.
Speakers on the occasion expressed serious concern over the massive destruction of forest and wild life.
“With the increasing destruction of the biodiversity, people should also take part in its conservation and not just wait for the concerned departments”, Rabi Takhellambam said and added that people must learn the meaning of biodiversity.
Other speakers asserted the need for campaign at school and village level on biodiversity.     
As a part of the event, a Divisional Level Painting competition was held for students from Class V to Class XII in three categories. For Class V to VIII, Laishram Srinivash, Sweety Wahengbam and Waikhom Abhinash from Ruda Academy Thoubal won the competition. For Class IX to X, Thouchom Utam, Moirangthem Ranjoy and Maimom Bamkimchandra took the prize. Thokchom Biron, Jeeva Takhellambam and Suranjoy Chirom took the first, second and the third prize for XI to XII category. From each category, 10 students are selected for consolation prize.
