Veteran politician Meinam Bhorot passes away

Veteran politician and former Thangmeiband MLA, Meinam Bhorot, passed away today, leaving behind a legacy of political service and public engagement in Manipur. A founder member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state, Bhorot played a significant role in shaping the party’s early years and expanding its presence across Manipur.
Bhorot’s political career spanned several decades, during which he represented the Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Known for his dedication to public life, he was actively involved in policy discussions, constituency development, and political initiatives that influenced the state’s governance and party politics.
Condolences have poured in from across the political spectrum. Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh described Bhorot as a “committed and visionary leader whose guidance helped shape BJP’s growth in Manipur.”
Speaker Th Satyabarta extended his sympathies to Bhorot’s family, highlighting his “unwavering commitment to public service and his role in strengthening democratic processes.” BJP Manipur Pradesh President A. Sarda Devi and several BJP MLAs including Khumukcham Joykishan also expressed grief, recalling his mentorship of younger leaders and his enduring contributions to the party and the state.
Political leaders, party workers, and members of the public continue to remember Bhorot as a respected figure whose efforts left a lasting impact on Manipur’s political landscape.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced shortly, with many expected to pay their respects to the veteran leader. His passing marks the end of an era for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Manipur and for those who witnessed his active role in the state’s political developments.
