The All Manipur VDF Employees Welfare Association has announced a temporary suspension of its proposed indefinite “Gun Down” and “Pen Down” strike, which was scheduled to begin today, August 1, 2025. The decision was made following a high-level meeting held with senior officials of the Police Department.
In a press release issued by Kh. Nanda, Publicity Secretary of the Association, it was stated that the meeting was chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zone-I, Themthing Ngashangva (IPS), and attended by DIG (Headquarters) PHQ, S. Gautam (IPS), along with DIGs and Superintendents of Police from Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Thoubal. Representatives of the VDF also participated in the discussion.
The deliberations focused on addressing long-standing grievances of the VDF personnel. As a major outcome, it was agreed that a dedicated committee will be constituted on or before August 10, 2025, to examine and resolve service-related issues concerning the VDF.
The Association further informed that a formal representation of their demands will be submitted to the Governor through the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur.
Reiterating their appeal to the government, the Association urged a revision of the VDF pay structure, seeking minimum wage parity for skilled labour, in recognition of the services and dignity of VDF personnel.
