A large number of V.D.F. personnel in their uniforms gathered at Tera Bazar to march a rally towards Assembly House and submit a memorandum to the speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly on Monday morning. Just before noon, a team of Imphal West Police arrived at the spot and stopped the V.D.F. personnel from marching ahead.
Speaking to media, Allimudin, member, All Manipur V.D.F. Welfare Association (AMVWA) said that they had gathered to march a rally towards Assembly House and submit a memorandum with a list of demands. The demands are; to increase the honorarium (nominal payment) of VDF personnel to Rs. 10,000 per month, the VDF personnel should get thirteen months’ pay and if not no duty should be assigned on Sundays and general holidays in a year, to establish a separate battalion for VDF personnel headed by a Superintendent of Police, etc. Allimudin said that a team of six people led by the President, Deban, General Secretary, S. Ravi Singh of AMVWA went to submit the memorandum to all the 60 MLAs of the state.
