Jiribam, July 13:

VDF Guardian Association Jiribam staged a sit-in-protest demanding appropriate pay for VDF personnel in front of Congress Bhavan, Babupara, Jiribam today.
Speaking to media persons at the sit-in, the president of All Jiribam VDF Guardian Association S. Sushila Devi said that the VDF personnel has been engaged in the maintenance of law and order in different districts of Manipur.
The duties performed by the personnel (VDF) are similar to the duty performed by State Police. However, the honorarium of Rs 8000 per month for VDF personnel is meagre which could not meet the necessary needs of their families. As most of the daily commodities prices touch the sky height at present.
“Meeting days end and supporting families with such meagre amount is not practical,” she said.

The protesters hold placards written as- “Revise salary as per present situation, Don’t destroy the right of VDF, Agitation till the demand is achieved, Support the living right of VDF”.
