As part of the ongoing Van Mahotsav celebration, the Kakching Range under Thoubal Forest Division today led a tree plantation drive at the Sarik Konjin Hill View Centre located within the jurisdiction of the Wangoo Beat Office. The programme witnessed active participation from the local residents who joined hands with forest officials in planting various tree saplings.
The event, themed “Plant Trees, Save Trees, Lend a Hand to Make Our Manipur Greener,” was held with public support from Sarik Konjin village. Speaking at the occasion, Range Officer of Kakching, Huidrom Sundar, highlighted that the U Chara trees planted today are meant not only for environmental restoration but also to ensure water conservation. He added that the area has been a source of water in the past and it is hoped that with proper plantation, the water sources may be revived.
Range Officer Sundar pointed out that such public-involved afforestation efforts are necessary as government departments alone cannot handle ecological restoration. He appealed to the villagers to continue nurturing the trees and protect the planted saplings with dedication.
He also noted that the current plantation will transform the area into a picturesque green spot in the future. The view from the Sarik Konjin hill offers a spectacular sight of the Pumlen Lake, making it an ideal eco-tourism spot once the greenery is restored.
Today’s plantation drive was also attended by Wangoo Beat Officer L. Ramananda, Waikhong Beat Officer N. Bojen, Pallel Beat Officer N. Bikramji, members of the Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC), Village Level Federation (VLF), and many local residents who extended support to the green initiative.
