Civil body United peoples’ Front (UPF) Manipur today expressed strong condemnation to the import of huge consignment of betel leaves when the people are in state crisis not only because of the total lockdown to fight COVID -19 but also due to shortage of essential commodities.
A statement issued by UPF President W. Second  demanded the State Government to strictly deal with those involved in the incident. Explaining that the extended lockdown has severely depleted stocks of numerous saving drugs, W.Second President UPF further urged the State Government to do the needful and bring inample quantity of drugs and medicines for the people who need them.
He appealed to the transporters and drivers concerned to refrain from illegally bringing in any outsiders, mainly labourers, into the State If any driver accidentally brings in any labourer who happens to be infected by the deadly COVID-19, then it will potentially lead to an outbreak in the State thus rendering the lockdown measures of the Government completely useless, it cautioned. UPF continued that all should acknowledge and appreciate the immense contribution of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, health workers, Medical Department, press, water supply, electricity and police in the fight against the pandemic and thanked the said individuals for their efforts.
