UNMM condemn kidnapping and threats to rape of a PhD Scholar of JNU

The United Ngo’s Mission Manipur, Women Committee has expressed strong condemnation to the alleged kidnapping, confinement, threatened to rape and murder, keina katpa (another form of force marriage) to a PhD scholar of Jawaharlal Nehru University, JNU, New Delhi against her will by one Rajkumar Master Meitei of 35, son of RK Sanajaoba of Mayang Imphal Konchak Mayai Leikai, Imphal West on 12th December 2021.
A statement of the UNMM , Women Committee said that the alleged incident is an act of total denial of one’s consent in determining her most important decision of her life.
As consent is one of the most important elements for the determination of the fact whether any act of elopement is against law or not, the statement further said and added that if there is an absence of the consent of the girl involved in an elopement, such an act would be considered as a criminal offence and the boy involved in such an inhuman act should be punished.
Women committee expressed disappointment and condemned such victimisation and discrimination to women and girls in the strongest term.
The committee urged all the concern authorities, to look into the matter and investigate immediately and to take up necessary steps and measure to sentence the involving culprits in the conspiracy.
The Committee also requested the concern authorities to participate and kind cooperation to overcome such heinous crime and save the women and girl of Manipur.
