An under trial rape accused who is on bail had reportedly joined the Manipur Police Force as Sub Inspector and is presently undergoing training at Pangei Police Training Academy.
Family of a rape Victim today condemned the state government for letting the accused undergoing training for police job while a case has been pending against him at Cheirap Court.
Speaking to media, Achung Gangmei said that the accused Asang has taken bail and undergoing Assistant Sub Inspector training at Pangei while the trial for raping of her granddaughter is still in the court. Asang (29), son of Ahungsi Shimray of Dullalel and Aboi (30) of Nagaram was accused of raping her granddaughter last New Year (2014).
She said both the accused are drug addicts and had been kept in rehab centers many times, earlier. There were also incidence of the dou committing various form of crimes, she added.
“If a rapist and drug abuser like Asang becomes a Police Officer, it’s creating a gruesome fear in the mind of the people that many such cases of rape will take place in the society’, said the grandmother. She said they haven’t received the interim relief amount payable by the government to rape victim for filing case to proceed trial.
Achung Gangmei further said that the accused’ family threatened them to withdraw the case by promising to offer a compensation of Rupees Ten Lakhs. She condemned the government for letting accused Asang, who is on bail to undergo for the ASI training and asked if law and order still exist in the state.
