Imphal July 16: Ukhrul District Head Quarter is still wearing a deserted look as normalcy has not yet resumed after the killing of ADC member Ngalangzar Malue in an ambush by the cadres of a militant group suspected to be NSCN (IM).
After the call of 24 hours general strike in Naga inhabited areas since the previous midnight by United Naga Council (UNC), normal life paralyzed in Ukhrul town. Even though the general strike could not affect much in other Naga inhabited areas it affected much in Ukhrul District. No vehicular movement was seen, educational institutes, shops and business establishments were closed down. The general strike was called by UNC against the deployment of state forces and the arrest of eight NSCN (IM) cadres from Ukhurl after raiding the office of NSCN (IM)’s Wung Region located at Phungrei-tang.
As many as 700 state forces’ personnel have been deployed in Ukhrul Town to hunt the culprits who involved in the killing of Ngalangzar. The action of the state government is regarded as the quickest response to such an inhuman incident of killing innocent people by many people. However, UNC and many other Tangkhul Civil Society Organisations are still criticizing the act of the state government.
It may be mentioned here that just after the personnel of state forces reached Ukhrul town in the wee hours of the following day of killing Ngalangzar, they cordoned the office of NSCN (IM)’s Wung Region located at Phungrei-tang and picked up eight cadres of NSCN (IM) along with arms and ammunition from the office.
