In a historic achievement, Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS), one of the oldest and the only government higher secondary school in Ukhrul, has produced five toppers in the recently declared results of the Higher Secondary Examination (HSE) 2024. This remarkable feat highlights the dedication and hard work of the students, teachers, and administration of UHSS, and underscores the potential of government institutions to excel.
The felicitation program, held today at the school premises, was organized by the school administration and teaching staff. The event was graced by the presence of Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner, Ql. Kengoo Zuringla IAS, and the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) of Ukhrul.

The ceremony celebrated the achievements of the five toppers and other successful candidates of the HSE 2024 from UHSS. Principal AS. Josiah expressed immense pride in this milestone, emphasizing that it is a historic moment for UHSS, a government institution that has outshined many private schools in the state. He remarked, “It is a proud moment and history-making for a government institution like UHSS to produce state toppers, breaking previous records and setting new benchmarks.”
Josiah attributed this success to the government’s initiatives in supporting underprivileged students by providing free education up to class VIII and free meals, which have started to show results. Established in 1952 and upgraded to a high school in 1970, UHSS has a long-standing history of educational service. After decades, it is now flourishing, and the path forward is clear for more students to achieve excellence in the coming years.
Meet the Toppers
The HSE 2024 toppers from UHSS are:
Ningpen Huileng (Science) – Ukhrul Topper with 92% (460 marks), excelling in English, Tangkhul, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. Ningpen is a top 1% performer in the state and eligible for the Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) under the INSPIRE program.
Mansak Shimrah (Science) – Achieved 83.8% (419 marks), excelling in English, Tangkhul, Physics, and Chemistry.
Mishak Huileng (Science)- Scored 80.2% (401 marks), excelling in Tangkhul, Physics, Computer Science, and Mathematics.
Sobi Makung (Science) – Scored 80% (400 marks), excelling in English, Tangkhul, and Geography.
Tonoubi Saka (Arts) – Achieved 74.4% (397 marks), excelling in English, Alternative English, Political Science, and Geography.
Words of Wisdom
Deputy Commissioner Ql. Kengoo Zuringla congratulated all the successful HSE candidates of 2024. In her address, she reminded the students of the sacrifices their parents make for their education and well-being. “When you have nothing to eat at your table, your parents will sacrifice for your food,” she said, emphasizing the importance of gratitude and perseverance. She encouraged the students to see their success not as the end of their journey but as the beginning of many more miles to cover. She advised them to maintain discipline and routine to achieve their dreams, acknowledging that life will have its ups and downs. Additionally, she highlighted the importance of learning and inculcating the habits and culture of giving and sharing. “Serving people with your given capacity will one day make you shine and become a model of inspiration for all,” she added.
