Ukhrul District VDF Welfare Association declares full support for statewide indefinite strike from August 1

The Ukhrul District Village Defence Force (VDF) Welfare Association has announced its full support for the proposed indefinite “Gun Down and Pen Down” strike set to commence from August 1, 2025. The strike was initially called by the Central Committee of the All Manipur VDF Employees Welfare Association on July 19, demanding long-pending welfare measures for VDF personnel.
In a press statement issued by Chipemmi Raising, President of the Ukhrul District VDF Welfare Association, the association expressed solidarity with the collective decision of the Central Committee and warned of continued unrest if the government fails to act by July 31. The association highlighted its commitment to joining the strike along with its members if the state government does not fulfill its promises.
The association recalled that the state government had assured the Central Committee during a meeting on May 17, 2025, that appropriate action on key VDF-related demands would be taken within two months. However, no visible steps or progress have been made so far, leading to increasing dissatisfaction and unrest among VDF personnel across the state.
The major demands of the VDF personnel include the implementation of Section 18 of the Police Act of 1861, regularization of VDF services, and an increase in monthly pay structure.
Reaffirming their pursuit of justice and rightful recognition, the Ukhrul District VDF Welfare Association stated it would fully participate in the statewide indefinite strike to secure the welfare of VDF personnel.
