UFO observes World Non-Butcher Day in honour of Founder RK Manisana

The Universal Friendship Organization (UFO) observed World Non-Butcher Day in connection with the birth anniversary of its Founder, RK Manisana, under the theme “Eikhoi punna Hingminnashi” (Let Us Live Together). The event was held at the All Manipur Battalion General Headquarters of UFO, located at Chingnungkok in Imphal East.
The programme was attended by UFO President RK Sana Parihal, Secretary General Yumlembam Meiraba Angom, Finance Secretary L. Tairen, Publicity Secretary Tongbram Wanglen, instructors, battalion commanders, and members of the UFO from different parts of Manipur.
Speaking at the occasion, UFO Secretary General Yumlembam Meiraba Angom said that although the Founder of UFO, Luching Purel RK Manisana, is no longer with us, the organization continues to observe World Non-Butcher Day on May 14 every year in honour of his vision to make the world a place free from animal slaughter.
He further stated that following RK Manisana’s initiative, the UFO had proposed to the United Nations (UN) to declare May 14, the birth anniversary of RK Manisana, as World Non-Butcher Day. The proposal was submitted through the President of East Timor, Jose Ramos-Horta, to the UN Secretary-General.
A copy of the received proposal has also been preserved in the records of the UFO. It was shared that the President of East Timor formally handed over the proposal to the UN Secretary-General on September 21, 2024.
Yumlembam Meiraba added that RK Manisana’s vision behind initiating this day was to raise global awareness against the mass killing of animals and to inspire a humane, compassionate world. Hence, May 14 will continue to be commemorated annually as World Non-Butcher Day.
