The President of the United Committee Manipur (UCM), YK Dhiren, called on the people of Manipur to rise above personal rivalries and narrow group interests, emphasising that the State’s unity and security require collective responsibility. He warned that failure to act in unison could lead to serious and irreversible consequences for Manipur.
Dhiren made the remarks during a programme jointly organised by the United Peoples’ Front, Manipur (UPF), the Maharaj Gambhir Singh Memorial Committee (MGSMC), the Manipur Youths’ Front of Assam (MYFA) and Apunba Khungang Mapan Chaokhat Lup (Apun Lup), held at the Manipur Levy ground, Chandrapur, Assam. The event was held to pay tribute to Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Nara Singh on the 173rd anniversary of the Manipur Levy, and included cultural presentations and visits to the Manipur Levy Museum.
UPF advisor Khomdram Ratan urged India to recognise and respect Manipur’s unique identity and heritage, stressing the need to preserve historical and cultural legacies and to educate younger generations about the State’s values.
The programme was attended by leaders including UPF president Nongthombam Rupachandra, MYFA president Thangjam Brojen, Apun Lup general secretary Meisnam Jiten, MGSMC president Keisham Bidyapati, AAMSU president Ngasekpam Sanahal, AMSU president Lukram Malangba, and others.
The event concluded with a wreath-laying and floral tribute at the statue of Maharaja Gambhir Singh at Awapalli Khubham, Kamranga, as a mark of respect for his contributions and sacrifices.
