TYCM urges government to fill vacancies in TRI

The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM) has urged the Government of Manipur to expedite recruitment to vacant posts in the Directorate of Tribal Affairs and Hills Department, the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), and the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd. (MTDC), alleging prolonged neglect of institutions serving tribal communities.

In a statement, TYCM expressed concern that while recruitment processes have been conducted in several other government departments, vacancies in key tribal departments and institutions remain unfilled despite repeated appeals.

According to the council, the Directorate of Tribal Affairs and Hills Department has only 38 employees against a sanctioned strength of 138, leaving 100 posts vacant. The Tribal Research Institute has 13 staff members against 33 sanctioned posts, while the MTDC is also facing a significant shortage of personnel.

TYCM stated that the shortage of manpower has adversely affected the implementation of developmental programmes and hindered the overall progress of tribal communities in the state.

The council further alleged that the government’s commitment to ensuring balanced development of both the hills and valley has not been reflected in action with regard to tribal welfare institutions.

It said that representations seeking recruitment to the vacant posts had been submitted even before the imposition of President’s Rule and that another memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister on June 23, 2026, reiterating the demand.

The TYCM urged the government to address the issue at the earliest and respond to the concerns of tribal communities to prevent growing public resentment and possible agitation.
