Imphal, Dec 18:
The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), General Headquarters, conducted an inspection of the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) office at Chingmeirong, yesterday, accompanied by media personnel. The inspection revealed serious concerns about the office’s functioning and condition.
During the visit, only three staff members were present at the TRI office, with the Director and Research Officer-cum-Administrative Officer absent. The staff members revealed that no programs or activities have been conducted since May 3, 2024. It was further disclosed that the Director and the Research Officer-cum-Administrative Officer have been operating from the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills, Manipur, neglecting their duties at the TRI office. Both their offices were found locked during the inspection.
The press release of TYCM further said, “The state of the TRI office was also found to be alarming. The premises were in a poor and unsanitary condition, with animal waste (cow and dog dung) scattered inside the office, indicating a lack of proper maintenance and neglect of the facility.”
Despite all other government offices in the state resuming normal operations in early 2024, the TRI office has remained non-functional. The Director and Research Officer-cum-Administrative Officer are operating TRI from the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills, Manipur. The absence of the Director and Research Officer-cum-Administrative Officer from the TRI office has disrupted its operations, raising serious concerns about its ability to serve the tribal communities effectively, the press release added.
