TYCM extends deadline for functionalisation of Tribal Girls’ Hostel till March 10

In continuation of its earlier ultimatum concerning the commencement of the Tribal Girls’ Hostel at Old Lambulane, Imphal, the Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), Council Headquarters, convened a Central Executive Council meeting to review the matter.
The meeting, chaired by President Momo Tantanga, primarily deliberated on a communication received from the Secretary to the Chief Minister on February 27 through WhatsApp. According to TYCM, the message informed that an appointment would be scheduled after March 5 due to prior official engagements. It further stated that the concerned file was under process to initiate necessary works under the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department to make the hostel functional within March, or by April 2026 at the latest.
Following detailed discussion, the Central Executive Council resolved to extend the deadline for operationalisation of the hostel till March 10, 2026.
The hostel had been occupied by paramilitary forces since May 3, 2023 in the aftermath of ethnic violence in the state and was vacated on September 20, 2025 after sustained demands.
TYCM stated that tribal girl students from remote areas are presently staying in rented houses in Imphal, causing financial hardship to their families, and stressed that timely functioning of the hostel is essential.
