Two more tunnel constructed inbetween Imphal to Tupul for Railway track has been reported complete today, the Tunnel no. 2 which is about 641 metre in length and Tunnel No. 4 which is about 1289 meter has been completed today evening. The tunnel located at Maramching in Noney district is ready for the railway said a source.
The tunnel work is being carried out by Senbo Engineering Limited under the North Eastern railway frontiers.
The source added that with the completion of the two tunnel it will not take long to complete the Imphal –Tupul railway track too.
The Imphal –Tupul Jiribam railway track is scheduled to be completed by 2019 and there were many critics over the issue of whether it will be completed or not by 2019, however after the completion of the tunnel no. 2 and tunnel no. 3 at Marang Ching it is likely that the railway reaches Imphal by 2019.
Once the rail track is completed than the time consumption from Imphal to Jiribam will be around 2 hours, a source said.
